Playing with an aesthetic of decomposition, she stages characters with mute and incomplete bodies, immersed in an abyssal atmosphere. By degrading the negative with bleach, she cuts through the bodies with blue and vaporous forms. The negative becomes an extension of the artist’s skin, and damaging its surface becomes a form of therapy to combat a tendency towards self-harm that she experienced as a teenager. This work, as an expression of her internal tensions, evokes solitude and the embodiment of distress resulting from societal norms and expectations regarding our appearance and emotions.

As Susan Sontag pointed out in her essay “Sur la Photographie” in 1977, photography is inherently nostalgic: it transforms the present into the past. Through her series “L’autre Monde” (The Other World), Elodie Poirier explores the possibility of an organic world existing beyond reality: a fragile and ever-changing universe, belonging to the abysses of time. Through her images, the artist addresses our relationship with the passing of time, the fluctuating identity, and a shared destiny: the aging of the physical shell and the death of the soul.

The Moon Inside You est une recherche introspective composée d’autoportraits au polaroid, où Elodie  utilise son propre sang pour altérer le film. Cette série est également composée de Polaroid Round Frame qu’elle fait macérer dans son sang menstruel. Le résultat de la symbiose de son sang avec le polaroid évoque un monde lunaire et organique. Cette série lui a permis d’expérimenter la rencontre entre performance et photographie. Le polaroid porte son ADN : son corps est devenu un outil de création et de destruction. 

” The Moon Inside You” is an introspective exploration consisting of self-portraits taken with a Polaroid camera, where Elodie uses her own blood to alter the film. This series also includes Polaroid Round Frame photographs that she soaks in her menstrual blood. The result of the symbiosis between her blood and the Polaroid evokes a lunar and organic world. This series has allowed her to experiment with the intersection of performance and photography. The Polaroid carries her DNA: her body has become both a creative tool and a means of destruction.

J’aime aussi l’idée d’un art que l’on perfectionne sans relâche tout au long de sa vie, auquel on se consacre et qui protège de tout, ou presque, ne serait-ce que par la passion que l’on y met. La sorcière incarne la femme affranchie de toutes les dominations, de toutes les limitations ; elle est un idéal vers lequel tendre, elle montre la voie.”

“Je ne pense plus à mourir. Or, il m’arrive de vouloir disparaître. D’une certaine façon, il s’agirait d’un retour à l’enfance. Quand je me reconnaissais coupable de quoi que ce soit, ça me frappait comme un éclair. J’aurai voulu m’évanouir dans l’air. J’y pense encore parfois : dans un ” pouf ” magique, laisser là quelques amas de linge. Ou plus simplement : conduire jusqu’au bout de la route.”
